Hormones are an incredibly important part of our overall body chemistry. Whether assessing fertility, determining why you’re tired, or even trying to understand bone health, hormones are often the solution. The problem is that figuring out hormone levels usually involves blood tests, needles, and appointments—major hassles and obstacles. The new Eli Health Hormometer will make monitoring hormones as easy as monitoring blood sugar.
The Eli Health Hormometer uses your saliva to test your hormone levels. Currently, they can test cortisol (stress hormone) and progesterone (especially useful in tracking and measuring fertility), and they eventually plan to add testosterone and estrogen measurements.
Once you’ve collected your saliva by holding the cartridge in your mouth for 60 seconds, the device can measure your hormone levels in about 20 minutes. No needles, no appointments, no long wait times for results!
As Eli Health points out, this is incredibly useful information we don’t currently have at our fingertips. There are ways to measure some hormone levels at home, typically for fertility, but they are focused on one area and usually give binary yes/no results.
The Hormometer will provide more data and allow you to track it over time, giving you better insight into how your body is functioning.
The Eli Health Hormometer is still in beta testing, but so far, the cortisol test is at 97% accuracy compared to gold standard testing, and the progesterone test is at 94%. That’s impressive, and as we learn more about how our bodies work and how we can take action at home to improve our health, the more devices like the Hormometer will be key!
The intention is to roll out globally later this year, with plans projected to start at an $8/month subscription.
